Distance is important, but it is not the whole price
A 200-mile journey with a ready-to-load room can be simpler than a shorter route involving several floors, difficult parking and a large household inventory. We therefore look at both the journey and the work at each address.
Loading time
Boxes that are ready, furniture that fits through the property and parking close to the entrance can reduce the time before the van leaves.

Unloading access
The move is not finished when the van reaches the destination. Floors, lifts, parking and the walking distance to the entrance all affect unloading time too.

Include every stop before the quote is confirmed.
A storage unit, key collection, second pickup or additional delivery changes the route and working time. Add it to the original itinerary so the quotation reflects the full journey.
Before moving day
Prepare for a journey where turning back is expensive
Local moves can sometimes recover from a forgotten small item. On a long-distance job, returning to the collection address may be unrealistic. A final room-by-room check is more important.
Inventory check
Walk through every room, cupboard, loft, garage and storage area. Make sure the quoted list still matches what needs to travel.
Essentials bag
Keep keys, documents, medication, chargers, toiletries and a change of clothes with you. Do not bury arrival-day essentials at the back of the load.
Access at arrival
Confirm keys, parking and building access before the van sets off. If the destination has a concierge or loading bay, make sure the arrival window is workable.
